More Mobile: Did You Survive Mobilegeddon?
Time to Start Paying Attention to the Mobile Revolution
On February 26th, Google Webmaster Tools announced that it would roll out an update to its search algorithm, which would favour mobile-friendly sites. Chaos ensued across the web and the offending update was dubbed Mobilegeddon.
What does that really mean? As of April 21st, 2015 - Google’s new algorithm will boost mobile-friendly site’s search rankings, so that users will have an easier time finding what they’re looking for, in a format that is optimized for their mobile devices.
We know what you’re thinking – you have a website, and it’s a darn good one. Why should you care how it looks on a smartphone? Thanks to smartphones and tablets, desktop search is not the only game in town anymore. According to ComCast, mobile accounts for a whopping 60% of all digital media consumption!
Mobile Matters. Those stats confirm that more people than ever are using their smartphones to find the goods & services they’re looking for while on the go. Furthermore, according to a study conducted by Google, 50 percent of those mobile users are more likely to visit a store after conducting a local search. So, if your business’s site doesn’t pass Google’s mobile criteria, your online visibility could suffer, which could result in lost traffic and sales. Nobody wants that.
Don’t panic! Start by putting your site to the test with Google’s Mobile-Friendly Site Checker. Then you can dig a little deeper using Google Webmaster Tools free Mobile Usability Report to get a full list of the mobile issues on your site.
